OK, if you have 50 minutes to spare – while you eat your tea, if you’re me, for example – watch this. It’s Charlie Brooker’s Screenwipe, so it’s NSFW because of swearing, but it’s also the most inspirational thing I’ve ever seen when it comes to writing. Utterly brilliant. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00fvgj5/Charlie_Brookers_Screenwipe_Series_4_Episode_3/ (UK only, I’m afraid… sorry.… Continue reading »

Hooray! Welcome to 2009
A new year and a new version of WordPress. How exciting. I’m making some resolutions, most of which I will fail to keep. Hurrah!

Lots of (well, some) linky goodness for writers and non-writers alike.

An overdue update, and all about writer fuel…
All about being slack and drinking tea and how – for once – the two aren’t related. There’s also some unashamed product placement going on. Next time, I’ll probably be begging or something equally undignified.

It’s a familiar situation – you walk in to a party like you’re walking on to a yacht, and all of a sudden you get the feeling that the song playing is exactly about you and your life. Why is that? And how can we use that phenomenon to make our writing appeal to a broad cross-section of clients or stakeholders?

Humour, puns and word-games – a question
Is it a good idea to try to put a little bit of humour in your writing? Humour makes you human, but does it risk making you look foolish? Should you try to look clever? It’s a minefield, and one I’d like my readers to explore, if possible. Let me know your thoughts!
